Native American About Mohawk


The Mohawk 

 Now they live in New York (North America) and Canada.

  The total population: 78,000+
  Canada(Quebec, Ontario) 30,000
  United States(New York) 20,000
  
  They have their own indigenous Religion but they also have Christianity.

  They live in the longhouses.
  They have they own native language.
  
  The Mohawk and Dutch became allies, they relations were peaceful, even during the periods of Kieft's war and Esopus war.
  
   
  1666, the French attacked the Mohawk one of the conditions of the peace was that Mohawks accept jesuit missionaries.   


  Pequot war the Algonquian indians of New England sought an alliance with the Mohawk.the Mohawk refused the alliance, killing the pequot sachem Sassacus, who had come to them for refuge.




  Mohawks was Iroquois people, the Mohawk Indian tribe was one of    the original members of the Iroquois Confederation, or Kanonsionni in    their own language ("people of the longhouse.") The other member nations were the the Seneca, the oneida, the cayuga, and the Onondaga. Later a sixth tribe, the Tuscarora, joined the confederacy. Today these long-term allies refer to themselves as 
the Haudenosaunee or Six Nations.
